Why I'm closing my magic shop in Mayrhofen - and what's next
Share
This decision was anything but easy for me. The magic shop in Mayrhofen was not just a retail space for me; it was a true passion project. A place full of magic, sparkling children's eyes, curious adults, and many wonderful encounters. It is all the more important to me to explain openly and honestly why I am taking this step – and what happens next.
A passion project – but the location doesn't fit
From the beginning, the magic shop was specifically aimed at children and magic enthusiasts. It was about making magic tangible, trying out magic tricks, asking questions, and sparking genuine enthusiasm. This concept worked wonderfully on a human and creative level.
Economically, however, it became clear over time that there are strong fluctuations in a tourist region. During holiday seasons, the shop is naturally very busy, but these are always followed by weeks when it becomes significantly quieter. This irregularity makes reliable planning difficult.
There's another factor that should not be underestimated: When the weather is good or conditions are favorable, many tourists are on the mountain – skiing or hiking – and consequently stroll less through the village. This is particularly noticeable when a shop relies on foot traffic.
From today's perspective, Mayrhofen is therefore not the right location for this concept, which is aimed at children and those interested in magic, even if many people are there.
Costs, time, and reality
In addition to these external factors, the ongoing fixed costs of a business also play a role. At the same time, I am still regularly working as a clown and magician. Combining both in everyday life is significantly more difficult than I initially thought. The time-related dual burden of shop operations, organization, inventory management, and performances is difficult to sensibly reconcile in the long term – a point I had not anticipated in this form.
Family and personal balance
Another very important point is my family. Due to the many hours in the shop, I was absent much more often than was good for all of us. Of course, we knew from the beginning that having our own business is a big change – but in everyday life, you only truly feel how much it affects your shared life. My family also suffered from my frequent absence, which became increasingly clear to me over time.
With the closure of the magic shop, I now have more space for shared time, presence, and balance. Time that is invaluable in family life and which I intend to use more consciously in the future.
Focus on what truly works
In recent years, it has become increasingly clear where my strengths lie: in performances, shows, workshops, and the online sphere. The physical store absorbed a lot of energy that I lacked elsewhere. By closing the business, I am creating the necessary space to concentrate more on these areas again and continue them with full passion.
Very important: The webshop will remain
What is particularly important to me: The webshop is not affected by this decision.
The online magic shop will remain and will continue to be expanded – with new magic tricks, carefully selected products, personal advice, and honest recommendations. Discovering magic and buying magic tricks is still possible at any time – just online instead of in person.
Gratitude and looking forward
I am very grateful to everyone who visited, supported, and recommended the magic shop in Mayrhofen. For the many conversations, the laughter, the wonder, and the enthusiasm. This time was valuable and instructive – not a failure, but an important step in my development.
Sometimes magic also means having the courage to let go of something so that new things can emerge.
The magic remains. Only the location changes. ✨
