The Secret of Sword and Ring

The magician shows a transparent box. He opens it and places a ring inside (also a borrowed one). He places the box on a pedestal and covers everything with a tube. He then shows a small sword, which he inserts into the slots on the side of the tube and presses against the pedestal. Finally, he removes the tube, and as if by magic, the sword has penetrated the box and pierced the ring! In fact, the ring is pulled out of the box, "impaled" by the sword!
