Eye Candy by Hanson Chien
Eye Candy by Hanson Chien continues the journey of the groundbreaking Hook routine, presenting a new close-up variation three years after Eric Ross's original that elevates close-up magic to an entirely new level. Developed for the modern performer, Eye Candy combines reflection, audacity, and interaction—without the audience seeing behind the scenes.
What is Eye Candy?
In this routine, a spectator places a borrowed Tic Tac into the performer's mouth. Slowly, the candy is moved through the inner layer of the face until it lands in the eye socket. The audience can participate: they can push the Tic Tac and feel the bump moving under the skin. If desired, the Tic Tac can even be eaten—for an added shocking moment.
Why Eye Candy Works in Practice
- Modern prop that can be seamlessly integrated into walkaround formats.
- Setup is straightforward; the piece can be performed surrounded, so the audience notices nothing visible—perfect for contemporary "modern magic."
- Includes a special transport case that keeps the gimmick secure and sterile and facilitates setup. It requires minimal pocket space.
Manufacturing, Safety, and Quality
The gimmick is made from medical-grade materials, the same material used in surgical instruments. It is designed not to melt, irritate the skin, tear, or harm the body. Eye Candy is created in collaboration with Hanson Chien—one of the most renowned prop manufacturers in magic—to ensure maximum safety and precision.
Training and Safety
A crucial part of the routine is safety. More than 40 minutes of expert instruction from Sean Chou, Poker Chen, and Eric Ross guide you through safety and performance tips. With live performances and studio walkthroughs, they demonstrate various variations so that even beginners can master the learning path confidently. Spoiler: All learners have successfully implemented it.
Suitable for
Eye Candy is aimed at everyday magicians, close-up magic enthusiasts, and performers who want to elicit a modern, impactful reaction from the audience. The precise execution allows the effect to be shown in a variety of settings—from close-up to a larger stage presence—while still maintaining control.
