WHAT IS THE PHENAKISTOSCOPE MAP:
The phenakistoscope uses the principle of persistence of motion to create an illusion of movement. Although this principle was already recognized by the Greek mathematician Euclid and later in experiments by Newton, it was not firmly established until 1829 by Joseph Plateau.

To see the animation on the map you need:
- the Phenakistoscope card of the XQ card game 49
- a rotation of the card, e.g. with the card rotation movement
- a mobile phone for filming. View the rotating map through a camera phone
or any other camera with a 30 frames per second digital display and watch the map come to life.
- bright light. The brighter the light, the clearer the animation appears.

WHAT IS THE AUTOSTEREOGRAM CARD:
An autostereogram is a single-image stereogram (SIS) designed to create the optical illusion of a three-dimensional (3D) scene from a two-dimensional image. Perceiving 3D shapes in these autostereograms requires overcoming the normally automatic coordination between accommodation (focus) and horizontal convergence (corner of the eye). The illusion is one of depth perception and involves stereopsis: depth perception resulting from the different perspective each eye has on a three-dimensional scene, known as binocular parallax.

This is how you see the autostereogram:
- Relax your vision and unfocus your eyes. Look through the map as if your eyes were focusing on a point behind the map.
– Continue looking in this way until your focus adjusts and the hidden 3D object becomes sharp and recognizable.

• The deck has no faces as it was designed specifically for cardistry.
